Two of the five patients were healthcare workers. All patients had normal chest radiographs prior to anti-TNF treatment. Our data emphasise that country of origin is important in the determining risk of latent TB and that MCC950 in vitro a normal chest radiograph does not exclude latent TB.”
“Ventricular arrhythmias are common in the setting of nonischemic
dilated cardiomyopathy (NIDCM). However, the characterization of the substrate and mechanism of epicardial ventricular tachycardia (VT) associated with NIDCM is limited, and to the best of our knowledge VT due to myocardial reentry within the right ventricular (RV) epicardium associated with NIDCM has not been reported. We report a case of RV epicardial VT provoked by RV pacing that was successfully ablated. (PACE 2012; 35:e140e143)”
“The transport properties of Nb and Nb/Au thin film microbridges have been investigated. The presence of an Au
layer on top PLX3397 of a Nb thin film was found to reduce the critical temperature and change the vortex dynamics due to the proximity effect. The voltage-current characteristics of Nb/Au bilayer microbridges were studied at low applied magnetic fields in the range of 0.15-3 mT. Two different types of vortex motion were observed as the current increased. Linear resistive branches were first observed with resistance values consistent with the normal resistance of non-superconducting channels, a direct evidence of the motion for individual vortices while the vortex lattice is still pinned. At higher driving
currents, the whole vortex lattice was moved causing an abrupt Epacadostat voltage jump from the mixed state to the normal state. [doi:10.1063/1.3636111]“
“Context: Radiotherapy is the cornerstone of treatment in nasopharyngeal cancer (NPC); the addition of chemotherapy has shown improved results. Aims: To compare the results of concurrent chemoradiation with that of radiotherapy alone in NPC. Materials and Methods: One hundred and ninety consecutive NPC patients, without distant metastasis, who reported to the institute from January 1992 to December 2001, received external-beam radiation to 66 Gy in 33 fractions. Seventy-five of these patients received concurrent chemotherapy with cisplatin and 5-fluorouracil (5-FU) for four cycles. We compared the results of treatment in these two groups. Results: The 5-year disease-free survival rates were 40 and 60, respectively, for patients who had radiotherapy alone and those who had chemoradiation ( 0.002), while the median survival was 45 months and 60 months, respectively (P = 0.0028). Conclusion: A significant improvement in local control and survival was observed by the addition of concurrent chemotherapy with cisplatin and 5-FU to radical radiation in this nonrandomized study on patients with NPC.”
